Out of School Clubs

Breakfast Club

On arrival children are offered breakfast such as cereal or hot buttered toast with jam or marmalade with milk or orange juice.

Breakfast Club is generally a quiet time and activities are aimed at preparing children for the school day with discussion groups and board games for example.

After breakfast children are escorted safely to school.

After School Club

Children are met by members of the Play Works Team in a pre-arranged area within the school grounds and then escorted safely to the club.

Once at Play Works children are given plenty of opportunity to express themselves in ‘free play’; activities include:

  • Board games
  • Computer games
  • Snooker and pool
  • Playing freely with a host of toys
  • Role play

Children are also encouraged to take part in games and activities organised and led by members of the Play Works Team. Such activities include:

  • Art and crafts
  • Baking
  • Sports games and activities
  • Bingo with prizes
  • A multitude of other group games

The location of the club allows full advantage to be made of the facilities on the adjacent park. During the summer months we spend a great deal of our time on both the play ground and on the playing field for:

  • Football
  • Rounders
  • Parachute games
  • Loads of other sports and group games

Fruity FridayWe have a Quiet Room for reading, doing home work or simply chilling out after the school day.

Light snacks and drinks are provided during the session, usually crisps and biscuits although we have hot dogs on Weenie Wednesday, a variety of fruit on Fruity Friday and through the winter months it’s Toasty Tuesday.

Children also play a part looking after Lunar the hamster and the Play Works fish.

All our activities are flexible and children are given freedom of choice, priority is given to individual children’s needs; whatever they decide the emphasis is always FUN!

Currently the Breakfast and After School Clubs are available to children attending Urmston Infant and Junior Schools, St Mary’s Primary School and Woodhouse Primary School.

Your say

My daughter Phoebe has been coming to the club since October 2004 for both morning and after school provision. To say I have been pleased with the service provided would be doing it an injustice. The staff are extremely caring and have superb relationships with the children. The atmosphere is busy and full of fun and my daughter has absolutely thrived there. As an only child she has formulated some lovely friendships with children of all ages.

The activities that the children do are both fun and educational. There is always a wide range of activities going on, ranging from painting, dressing up, Karaoke, cooking, outdoor play, snooker and visits to the park and the cinema in the school holidays.

You only have to walk in to the building to sense the warm and friendly atmosphere. I would recommend Play Works as an outstanding provision of child care in the area.  It is like my daughters extended family.

I will be forever grateful to have found such an establishment.
